This past Fall, a group of eight students from HKU’s Social Venture Management Course joined Twopresents as interns. The students from different backgrounds were asked to work in teams on a variety of areas including; marketing, business development, IT and data analysis.
The tasks assigned included creating brochures and informational videos, drafting a plan for a new product stream, gathering and analyzing customer feedback and explaining the Twopresents concept to potential customers at events. Learnings from the experience were many. For Interns, the limitations and advantages of working in a small, social enterprise quickly became apparent. The students realized they had virtually no marketing budget but had free reign to try out any ideas without the restrictions of a bureaucratic approvals process. For Twopresents staff, the working style of a generation that has grown up with technology and social media brought about a new way of communicating and organizing tasks.
In the end, hard work, creativity and attention to detail proved to be the winning formula for the interns who excelled. We at Twopresents, are grateful for the time and energy put in by the HKU students. We hope our vision of promoting the values of giving and sharing will stay with them as they embark on their careers in the future. Thank you to HKU for the opportunity to engage interns through the Social Venture Management Course. We look forward to continuing to work with new groups of these talented young people.
