We hope you enjoy reading this message from Ciaran Parker, a student from HKU’s Social Venture Management course who worked with us as an intern along with fellow student Julian Binder earlier this year. Twopresents is grateful to Ciaran, Julian and all of our student interns who help us spread the word about making every celebration a meaningful one.
Hello hello! I’m Ciaran, I’m a student from Dublin who studied Business & Economics on exchange at HKU. I’ve spent 5 months living, breathing and eating my way through Hong Kong this year and I had the amazing opportunity to intern with Twopresents during my time here. I originally signed up to intern at Twopresents for two main reasons. Firstly, I wanted to see what working life and culture is like here in Hong Kong. I had heard so much about it but wanted to experience it first hand myself. Secondly, I was really impressed by the simplicity of the Twopresents idea and how they’ve managed to turn it into something that’s had a real and tangible impact so quickly. After spending 4 months working with Karola and Shirin my opinion on the whole business has grown tremendously. Not only is the service itself so useful for parents, you never realise the true impact each party is having until you dig a little deeper.
One of the highlights of interning with Twopresents was visiting Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) one Sunday to get some footage for our marketing videos. Not only were the dogs the cutest little things, we saw kids who had hosted parties with Twopresents go up one by one and present their cheques to the founder of HKDR. This was such a highlight. After working with Twopresents for a few weeks, we finally got to witness what the concept is really all about. The kids who had hosted parties were so proud presenting their cheques. They had researched where their gift donations were going and were aware of how their money was really making a difference. The founder also briefly spoke about the difference all the Twopresents parties have made to the charity, from funding vaccinations to ensuring rescued dogs are kept safe and secure before they find a new home.
This is what Twopresents is all about for me; young people developing an awareness about the issues around them, using their party to make a difference in their community and charities hugely benefiting from such kind actions. All in all, I’ve really enjoyed my time interning with Twopresents. It is such a fantastic concept lead by two incredible people which is making a real impact in Hong Kong. It deserves every bit of success and I wish it all the best in the future!
