We were delighted to be invited to speak to a group of Grade 3 students at Hong Kong International School’s (HKIS) Kindness Week this year. Our talk kicked off with a discussion about some of the social issues such as poverty, hunger, poor air quality, overburdened landfills and the loss of animal habitats, that plague our beautiful city. We told the story of how Twopresents was started by parents who wanted to teach their children about sharing and reducing waste, and how families can easily help those in need by choosing to share their birthday gift money through our platform.
Students were surprised to learn that forgoing just 3 boxes of Lego would equate to 120 hungry people receiving a hot meal. Our overarching message was that everyone, big or small, can make a difference and that there are plenty of ways to help. Whether you donate clothes and toys, volunteer your time or raise money through a lemonade stand…the important thing is to look around you and be aware. After all, a simple act of kindness can make a world of difference to those in need.
