Sustainability and eco-living are the buzzwords of our time. We all want to be part of the movement to give back and take care of our precious planet. At Twopresents we do this by giving back through celebrations. But this is only one way that families can be more sustainable. In our effort to spread the message of giving and sharing we are featuring other sustainable organizations in Hong Kong that are working to give back to the community.
With Chinese New Year just around the corner and Spring Cleaning in full swing in many homes, we are delighted to feature the wonderful work of DB Mothers & Friends. DB Mothers & Friends is a social enterprise that provides collection services to redistribute ‘preloved’ items from homes and offices to charities, schools, churches and others in need.
Based in Discovery Bay this enterprise aims to save as many used items as possible from going into landfills, create job opportunities and help people in need. Since 2013, the organization has collected used items from thousands of homes and redistributed these to less fortunate individuals in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and other developing countries. They also hire low-income individuals to carry out the moving jobs, thereby helping those in need to earn a wage.
DB Mothers & Friends will collect anything that is reusable and clean, charging only a small fee for transport and moving. Donating through their service is a great way for families to give back to our community and help the environment. In order to use their service, simply join the Facebook group ‘DB Mothers & Friends’ and PM or email a list and photos of your pieces, address and contact number to [email protected]. Founder, Nik Ki Boot will promptly reply and arrange collection.
